Looking good, equals feeling good.
Feeling good, equals automatically (naturally) looking good

LIKAS

Spring/ Summer 2016 Contemporary Women's Collection

Fayann Huang’s Spring/ Summer 2016 Contemporary Women’s collection is called “Likas” (lee-kass), which in Tagalog means, “All things Natural”. Likas represents many of the ideations behind the collection, including the exploration of traditional natural fabrics used in cultural Philippine garments, integrated into western fashions and the natural and inner beauty the ideal Fayann Huang customer exudes.

Drawing inspiration from the traditional women’s Filipiniana and the men’s Barong Tagalog looks, Fayann Huang incorporated these cultural elements with western and modern shapes throughout her collection. In addition to a few components drawn from the 1950’s and 60s era in the Philippines, the five looks within the collection comprise of pieces that a woman can wear either during the day at the office, or be transitioned to wear at night.

Each look in the collection contains an element made up of all natural native fabrics imported from the Philippines such as Piña (pineapple fabric) and Jusi (banana and pineapple silk), in order to pay respects and showcase the highly skilled craftsmanship of the Filipinos. The Philippines national flower, the Sampaguita has been placed in a gradient digital textile print, in which Fayann designed herself.

This collection is designed to enlighten and express an everyday woman's Likas, "all natural" beauty, which they possess both inside and out. It is a form of celebration in hopes that with any piece, once worn, that person will be able to feel confident and empowered enough to conquer their day.

Mass Exodus 2015

On April 1st, 2015 at the Ryerson University Mattamy Athletic Centre, Fayann Huang's Likas Spring/ Summer 2016 Collection debuted to the world at the 27th Annual Mass Exodus Fashion Show. Mass Exodus is the world's largest student run fashion show, built to showcase the work of the fourth year graduating class collections and capstones. Likas was chosen as one of the top 17 out of 60 graduating collection's to showcase in the reputable Evening Industry Show, curated by Fashion Television's Jeanne Beker. Check out the collection in action on the Mass Ex runway below:

...In its 27th year, the capstone project for Ryerson fashion students, Mass Exodus, is drawing big names like Stacey McKenzie, who ran workshops for the models, and Jeanne Beker, the curator of the April 1 evening show. Beker said she narrowed down the 60 collections of the graduating class to her final picks based on what designs told a unique story. The collections also had to embody the school of fashion’s three guiding principals: diversity, heritage and innovation. “It’s truly a look into fashion’s future,” Beker said of the final 17. If this is the future of fashion, we’re going to need our best pair of shades, because it’s hella bright.
